TFS HealthScience is a full service, global Contract Research Organization (CRO) that partners with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to advance innovative treatments and improve patient outcomes. With operations across 50 countries, TFS and its strategic partners provide tailored strategic resourcing sourcing and clinical development services in specialized therapeutic areas.
Since 2023, ZeroMission has ZeroMission the pleasure of collaborating with TFS HealthScience as a provider of high-quality services in climate calculations and consulting support for setting science-based climate targets (Science Based Targets). This work has supported TFS in its climate transition and culminated in September 2025 with the approval of short- and long-term targets by SBTi â an important milestone in TFS's broader commitment to climate action and responsible clinical research.
TFS uses ZeroMission's sustainability platform Our Impacts a powerful tool based on a database of over 100,000 emission factorsâto perform comprehensive climate calculations for all three areas in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The analysis covers everything from purchased goods and services to electricity consumption, business travel, and employee commuting.
We took the opportunity to ask Nicole Bezuidenhout, Sustainability and Communications Manager at TFS, a few questions!

âAs a global CRO, TFS has taken major steps to improve our sustainability data, increase transparency, and integrate climate considerations into strategic business decisions,â says Nicole Bezuidenhout, Sustainability and Communications Manager.Â
TFS has been using our sustainability platform for several years to calculate your emissions. What has been the biggest lesson learned so far?
One of our biggest lessons has been to gain a clearer and more comprehensive picture of our actual greenhouse gas footprint, both in terms of defining the right scope and improving the quality of the underlying data. We quickly realized that this is a common challenge for large global organizations. That's why we've invested significant resources in improving our internal processes for reporting to the Our Impacts platform, which has been easy to use and reliable in terms of results.
Since our first cycle of climate calculations, we have significantly broadened the scope of what we measure and, where possible, increasingly moved from cost-based estimates to actual activity data. This transition has been easy to implement in the platform and has greatly improved both data quality and our confidence in the results. Regular check-ins and guidance from the ZeroMission team have been crucial in this work. Together, we have addressed gaps, identified where supplier information can contribute to greater accuracy, and continuously refined our approach as better data has become available.
In 2023, TFS committed to setting short-term emission reduction targets in line with climate science by the end of 2025. How has the platform supported your internal goal setting and transition planning?
The platform has been crucial in creating consistency and methodological rigor in our emissions calculations, enabling us to develop a robust and credible baseline for our science-based targets. However, what has made the biggest difference has been the close collaboration with the ZeroMission team.
With the help of Rounak, Ellinor Jimmy, we have been able to interpret our data in light of the science-based targets and successfully complete the application and validation process with SBTi. We have been able to design meaningful and realistic reduction targets and transition plans, including how they will be monitored, reported, and integrated into the various areas and categories. The insights we have gained have been invaluable for our internal governance and transition planning.

âAccurate climate reporting and access to a reliable calculation model are the foundation that makes our climate goals credible and our progress measurableâwhich helps us move faster and more confidently toward our climate goals.â

ZeroMission's customer service and support have been excellentâconsistently reliable and always prompt, helpful, and collaborative, which has made a real difference to our sustainability journey. Their expertise has been crucial in enabling us to build a strong foundation for our sustainability work, particularly in climate accounting, reporting, and goal setting. This support has accelerated our transition process and enabled us to act with greater confidence and scientific rigour.
