Become a B Corp - for businesses that want to do good

A B Corp certification is awarded to companies that meet high standards in sustainability, covering areas such as governance, employee issues, customer care, gender equality, community and the environment. The certification confirms companies' commitments in these areas and provides access to a growing worldwide network of purpose-driven companies such as Patagonia and Allbirds.

How to become a B Corp

To become certified, your company needs to go through an extensive assessment and answer a questionnaire with over 300 questions. The questions focus on how your company impacts your stakeholders on issues related to climate, governance, diversity and equality and transparency.

The data is then submitted to B Lab, the international organization behind the certification, where it is reviewed and verified. To achieve the certification, the company needs to demonstrate high scores in all the different sustainability areas.

Frequently asked questions

Why is B Corp a good certification?

+
  • There are many reasons why getting certified by B Corp is a good idea. B Corp is a growing movement and the label is well known to customers. For the customer, it verifies that they are working with a company that takes sustainability in many different areas very seriously. It gives them peace of mind that you are doing the right thing and demonstrates that you are practicing what you preach. Certification also puts a clear internal focus on sustainability issues, which contributes to internal pride and is valuable in recruitment, and helps to keep the company's sustainability work up to date over time.

How long does it take to get certified?

+
  • It varies depending on how far your company has already progressed in its sustainability efforts before entering a certification process. The size and complexity of your company, for example if you are a manufacturing company or perhaps have branches abroad, also play a role. A process can take anywhere from a few months to over a year.

How often does the certification need to be renewed?

+
  • B Corp certification is renewed every three years.

Where are B Corp certified companies located?

  • There are over 6000 B Corp certified companies spread across 80 different countries. So far, the vast majority of B Corp certified companies are in North America, led by the United States. But the standard is growing steadily and is spread across the world. In Europe, the UK still has the most B Corp certified companies.

Is it easy to find other B Corp certified companies?

+
  • Yes, you can. You can search for other B Corp certified companies by country, size, industry and region. B Lab, which is behind the certification, also has several regional offices that help with everything from networking to certification and marketing.
