ZeroMission is proud of our long-standing collaboration with SPP Real Estate, a work that has been going on for over ten years. Through ZeroMission's sustainability platform Our Impacts , SPP Fastigheter's climate impact is calculated from, among other things, electricity and district heating consumption, water consumption, waste, property management, business and commuting trips and purchases.

We asked Henrik Svensson, Head of Property Development and Sustainability at Storebrand Fastigheter, a few questions about our collaboration with their climate strategy.

How did you decide to start calculating your climate impact through ZeroMission?

Real estate has a major impact on the environment and as a manager of one of the largest real estate portfolios in Sweden, we have a great responsibility to think long-term when we invest. We chose to calculate our climate impact with the help of ZeroMission because they have extensive experience and expertise in climate strategies.

The partnership gives us a greater opportunity to reach our climate goals in an efficient way. Their platform provides us with clear insights and support to calculate our emissions, which is an important input for our sustainability strategy. SPP Fastigheter and management company Storebrand Fastigheter received the top rating of five out of five stars in GRESB's annual ESG assessment of the real estate industry.

How has calculating your impact in ZeroMission's sustainability platform Our Impacts helped your sustainability efforts?

Calculating our impact in the Our Impacts sustainability platform has given us a good picture of our environmental footprint and helped us identify areas where we can improve. We have been able to set concrete targets and track our progress over time. It has also increased our transparency towards stakeholders and strengthened our commitment to sustainable development.

In what ways do you feel you can use the results to drive your sustainability work going forward?

We can use the results in a number of ways to drive our sustainability work forward: by seeing where our biggest environmental impacts are, we can focus our efforts where they really make the most difference. The results help us set specific, measurable targets to reduce our impact and improve our sustainability performance. We can continuously monitor our progress and adjust our strategies based on what works and what doesn't.

How has working with ZeroMission been valuable for you?

The construction and real estate industry accounts for a significant part of Sweden's total greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, which places high demands on both production and management to be done in a climate-smart way. ZeroMission has given us access to experts and resources that have relieved us when it comes to calculating electricity and district heating consumption and water consumption. Without measuring points, it is difficult to set goals and work for a shift with targeted efforts where they are really needed.

By measuring, challenging and continuously improving our operations, we are helping to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable society. As we gain more data, we can also better analyze and de-risk our portfolios.
