Climate calculations and climate financing from farm to table at Tradifood

Tradifood was founded almost 30 years ago with a business plan to bring the best French ingredients to the Swedish market. Today, Tradifood supplies premium ingredients to top restaurants throughout Scandinavia and also sells products in stores. Tradifood's work is based on the idea that sustainably produced food also tastes good on the plate. That is why their work is permeated by the keywords sustainability, respect, and consideration. You can read about their climate work here.

Tradifood is a company whose main business concept is to help restaurants in Sweden obtain luxury foods and high-quality French ingredients. The main focus is on high quality. For several years now, Tradifood has also been working to make really good French ingredients available to everyone – which is why these ingredients are now also available in retail stores.

But beyond that, Tradifood also contributes to important climate benefits by supporting the Paskaia project in Honduras – a project with strong social added value.

We spoke with Eric Bouchet, owner and CEO of Tradifood, to learn more about their climate efforts.

"For me, climate work is mostly a matter of having a clear conscience and feeling good about what I'm doing," says Eric Bouchet, CEO of Tradifood.

Hi Eric, tell us about your commitment to climate action!

I grew up on a farm in France and recently saw a photo of my dad from the 1970s when he was using pesticides without protective equipment. I worked on the farm myself as a child. My father later moved away from conventional farming methods and adopted a biodynamic approach, focusing on the interconnectedness of everything – animals, humans and nature. That's where my commitment to the environment and climate was born.

The idea that everything is connected is also reflected in Tradifood's approach to business, which emphasizes high-quality ingredients, animal welfare, and a sustainable livelihood for breeders and farmers.

How did Tradifood come to choose to work with ZeroMission?

We were inspired by Max Burger's initiative and climate financing, but it was only after a conversation with Kaj Török, Sustainability Manager at MAX, that I realized the social benefits that climate projects contribute. This is something that is also in line with Tradifood's desire and fundamental belief in working with local farmers.

The social benefits are just as important to us as the climate benefits. After that conversation, everything fell into place, our gut feeling was right, and that was when we decided to start climate financing.

What has the ZeroMission initiative ZeroMission to in terms of your climate work?

Not much so far, it's too early to say. But that also has to do with the fact that I haven't chosen to communicate this commitment to any great extent, other than on LinkedIn and our website.

For me, climate work is mostly a matter of having a clear conscience and feeling good about what I do. Tradifood is in a phase of expansion, which will lead to an increase in our climate impact. But this also means we have a growing responsibility to do good, to compensate and to reinvest in the environment in every way we can.

At some point, I will need to travel to Honduras to meet the people involved in the project supported by Tradifood. For now, we are contributing to providing them with a budget that can help—that is the most important thing!

What's next for Tradifood?

A supplier raised the question of whether we would consider joining Science Based Targets, so we have now decided to do so. We hope that the work will be completed sometime in early spring 2026.

I think it's important to have clearly defined goals so that we can stay in line with climate targets. We're doing what we can. If there are tools that can help us do that, then let's go for it!
