Menigo Foodservice has a collaboration with ZeroMission to climate finance all emissions generated by the business.
What does Menigo's climate initiative mean in concrete terms?
Reducing Menigo's climate footprint and becoming climate neutral by 2030 is the issue we see that we need to work on the most in our sustainability work. Therefore, it was natural for us to put a price on the handling of our invisible waste and start climate financing to take responsibility for the emissions we have today.
It also means that as the first restaurant wholesaler, we are taking a holistic approach with climate financing, where we not only focus on transport, but also include things like business travel, refrigerants and waste.
We have a lot of work ahead of us to reduce our footprint. We are aware of that, but we are also very excited to take on that challenge. We also believe that this builds pride among our employees, customers and partners in that we take responsibility and choose to act now.
Why did you choose to collaborate with ZeroMission?
ZeroMission has demonstrated great professionalism, service and knowledge in the area; climate financing is something new for us as a company, and we have therefore needed help choosing the right projects to invest in.
But we have also been careful to find projects that are close to our business and the impact we otherwise have; here, ZeroMission has been phenomenal in answering all the questions we have had.
Why climate financing and why these three projects in particular?
We wanted projects that are close to our business, and here ZeroMission had the best portfolio. The logic and connection are important for building engagement both internally and externally.
The three projects can be directly linked to large parts of our sustainability work in other areas, so we feel that we have found exactly the right thing. We see that these three projects partly counteract the clearing of rainforest for palm oil production, but also preserve biodiversity. The projects improve the conditions for the local population, and above all, climate financing contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Menigo Foodservice annually purchases carbon credits from a portfolio of projects that in various ways contribute to a positive impact on ecosystems, biodiversity, people and the climate.
