That's why ZeroMission has such a strong focus on carbon offsetting in projects certified by the Plan Vivo standard
At the very core of our values at ZeroMission is that we want to contribute to climate benefit and climate justice. Our mission is Zero - meaning zero climate emissions - and that is what our carbon offset projects primarily contribute to. They sequester or avoid carbon emissions.
Climate justice is another important element in how we select our projects. Among our criteria is Sustainable Development , where we require projects to clearly contribute to social sustainability. So basically all the projects in our portfolio do that too, but the standard that stands out is Plan Vivo.
Since the start of the Scolel'te project, Plan Vivo has had a bottom-up approach where the rights and will of smallholders and indigenous peoples have been the starting point. Only by working with local communities can you create sustainable projects where the climate benefits are lasting and the local smallholders benefit in different ways. This is an important difference from some other afforestation projects.
About 70% of the credits we mediate are in projects that are certified by Plan Vivo. In this standard, in addition to contributing to climate benefits, no less than five other UN sustainability goals are inscribed from the start. The projects are already designed from the ground up to meet the following goals:
- SDG 1 No poverty
- SDG 8 Decent work and economic growth
- SDG 13 Combat climate change
- SDG 15 Ecosystems and biodiversity
- SDG 16 Peaceful and inclusive societies
- SDG 17 Implementation and global partnership

Plan Vivo Impact Report 2021 - so much more than climate benefits
Plan Vivo's impact report was recently released and it becomes clear that projects within this standard go far beyond the written global sustainability goals. On average, among all existing Plan Vivo projects, 11 out of 17 goals are met! This is of course completely in line with what we at ZeroMission work for.
The report provides some examples of benefits achieved:
It is important to point out that the projects are not actually monitored on the basis of the SDGs, but essentially it is the climate benefit in CO2 that is strictly calculated. For the other SDGs, figures have been calculated based on activities rather than exact benefits. That the benefits have nevertheless been achieved has been established by the research behind the report.
ZeroMission heart Plan Vivo
For many years, we have had the exclusive right to sell credits from Plan Vivo in Sweden, which we are extremely proud of. These are quality projects that really make a difference! Several projects have been recognized for their design and impact on both locally and globally. In the coming years, more projects will be certified by Plan Vivo and we look forward to offering them to Swedish customers. In the meantime, we can highlight three projects that you can see below. You can find all our projects here. For more information about buying carbon credits, please contact Maria King, Team Leader for Carbon Offsetting.
