Our customer Remade in Sweden works with a circular business model to reuse all types of IT equipment. In other words, sustainability is in their DNA, but in addition to the great climate benefit created within the value chain, the company also takes responsibility in another way. Through the purchase of carbon credits, they finance carbon storage in tree plantations in the Upper Tana project north of Nairobi in Kenya. In this way, they take responsibility for CO2 emissions generated by their operations.
In dialog with the project, Remade's CEO Ulf Berglund also wanted to support a school in the project area with computers and other IT equipment. This week, the packages arrived just in time for Christmas at Kabebero Secondary School! The school has about 120 students in grades 9-12 (ages 14-18 years). Previously, there were only two computers at the school and these were only used for administration. Now the students get completely different conditions for learning to handle computers and utilize its possibilities.
Fred Kihara, head of the Uppe Tana project: "This can change the whole methodology of teaching here at the school where so far it has only been a blackboard and crayons. We are very much looking forward to being able to start using the equipment in teaching and our ambition is to eventually have a teacher with a special focus on computer use and maintenance of the equipment. Not only the school but the whole village is very proud to have this opportunity!"
"This is close to our hearts and in line with our vision to give more people access to digitalization. We have a clear philosophy for a circular business and when we can now share computers and equipment with an area where there is a great need for development, it is natural that we do so. It also goes hand in hand with the purchase of carbon credits, which on a broader level creates resilience and development in Upper Tana", says Ulf Berglund, CEO Remade in Sweden
Of course, we at ZeroMission think this is a fantastic fun 'loop' where we, our customer and a project can work together to do more, go the extra mile to create positive development. We were three employees from ZeroMission who visited this particular school in May 2023. We can see that a lot of positive things have happened and also that the trees we planted in front of the school have grown properly!
