Victor Törngren - what is it like to intern at ZeroMission?

October 14, 2024

Victor Törngren is interning for about 5 months at ZeroMission and tells here about how he experiences it.

Hi Victor! You've been with us for a while now - tell us how you feel so far!

It has been very welcoming! I feel like I've joined a close-knit group of positive people so it's great!

Tell us how you ended up here for your internship!

A few years ago, when I was doing my bachelor's degree in political science, I had the opportunity to do an internship at Solvatten. Since ZeroMission is a partner of theirs, I got in touch with the company. When I again applied for an internship, this time for my master's in Geography, the opportunity appeared through Sustainergies, which handled the recruitment. I applied and was offered the position!

OK, so you've seen development projects in East Africa up close before!

Yes, exactly, and that's what made me particularly interested in interning at ZeroMission. I was curious to learn more about carbon credits and how the market around them works. Both on the buyer side and on the project side.

What have you done so far at ZeroMission?

The first few weeks were quite an intensive introduction where I tried to get a grip on what everyone at the company works with. I have been involved in customer meetings, meetings about specific projects, strategy days, etc. One specific job I have had to get to grips with is ZeroMission's own climate report, which has been very developing. If you want to get a quick overview of a company's emissions and how they can be affected, this is a perfect task! Of course, I have had help from the climate strategists who work with calculations daily, Olivia Gefwert and Fanny Elfgren, but a lot of the compilation has been done by me.

Any specific lessons learned on climate emissions and calculations?

Yes, there is a lot of numerical material and I have had to familiarize myself with how ZeroMission's calculation platform works. It's easy to work with, but I'm struck by how clear it becomes what gives the biggest climate footprint. It is also clear how a company can reduce its emissions just by making simple choices, such as switching to vegetarian / plant-based meals or reducing travel.

Good insights! What will you be doing in the near future?

I am part of a group that is reviewing how the new EU directives affect environmental and climate communication, which is very instructive. From what I've heard so far, there is a shift in how companies need to look at their communication. Exciting - a lot of information to get to grips with!

Do you have any plans for the future after the traineeship?

Well then I'll get started with my essay! One of the hopes with the internship at ZeroMission was to get inspiration for a good theme for the essay and you can safely say that I have already gotten it. I have not decided anything yet but there are several ideas and there are several people at the company who have offered to support so it feels very good!

Who is Victor in his spare time?

I'm the kind of guy who likes to get out into nature and then of course with my dog. Although I live quite centrally, I am close to the forest so I feel privileged to be able to get out and get cones under my feet so easily. Otherwise, I like old classics, both in book and movie form, and I don't say no to a costume drama!

OK, then we have a little better control over you Victor! The next AW might be a quiz on the theme of costume dramas we remember! Great to have you here in our gang, good luck in the coming months!

Do you also want to intern at ZeroMission or do you know someone who should apply? Sustainergies is currently recruiting for an internship during the spring semester, deadline October 20.
