ZeroMission part of Nordic Climate Advisory Group

September 10, 2025

Although climate accounting sounds very straightforward and concrete, there are sometimes differences in how sustainability consultancies interpret standards and choose methodologies. An expert group - the Nordic Climate Advisory Group (NCAG) - has been set up to address these differences.

In the spring of this year, the Exponential Roadmap Initiative was approached with a request to put together an expert group of climate strategists from different companies, with the aim of harmonizing greenhouse gas calculations. Ultimately, the aim is to ensure that corporate clients get the same results regardless of which company they work with. The idea for what would become the Nordic Climate Advisory Group was born. Today, the initiative includes representatives from a handful of different stakeholders and is composed to reflect the sustainability reporting industry.

One example of something that has historically proved to differ greatly between companies is the so-called RFI factor, the high altitude factor that leads to greater climate impact for emissions at higher altitudes. There has been a lot of interpretation of this factor, which has led to clients sometimes getting different results from their calculations depending on which sustainability consultancy they worked with. This is despite the fact that travel itself has not increased or decreased. It is this type of issue, along with transparency and accounting issues, that the group will address.

ZeroMission is an active member of the group, responding to questions on an ongoing basis and contributing our expertise on the issues raised by the group. Many issues are worked on as a whole group, while for others we are asked to provide our input.

Nordic Climate Advisory Group

ZeroMission is part of a newly established expert group with a focus on harmonizing climate calculations between different prominent consulting companies.

What it means for you

The aim of the new expert group is to harmonize calculations between consultancies and share expertise, which will lead to a higher value for all companies we work with.

There is also a need to work with and reach a consensus on issues in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, as there is room for interpretation under certain categories within the initiative. From ZeroMission's point of view, we also see that this can become a matter of trust, as they know for certain that their calculations are of the highest possible quality, and that methodologies and calculation methods are consistent between consultancies.

- This initiative is needed, there is a need and definitely a value of us sitting down and doing this together, says Anton Claésson climate strategist at ZeroMission.

What happens next?

The relatively new group will continue to meet at regular intervals, a few times a year, to discuss issues relevant to the group. The hosting of the administration of these meetings is also set to rotate between the participating organizations. The group will also produce reports aimed at providing specific guidance and recommendations for other industry colleagues.
