Companies can now carbon offset help protect Swedish forests – ZeroMission launches a partnership with fightCOtwo

September 10, 2026

ZeroMission AB is expanding its partnership with fightCOtwo and is now a reseller of Swedish carbon credits linked to the protection of boreal forests in Lapland and inland Norrbotten. Through this partnership, companies and organizations can now, for the first time, carbon offset forest conservation in Sweden through VERRA-certified carbon credits via ZeroMission.

PRESS RELEASE

Forest Conservation Instead of Clear-Cutting

The carbon credits come from fightCOtwo’s Boreal Mix project. Among other things, the project protects forests along the Laisälven River in Lapland and in the inland regions of Norrbotten. Each forest area is specifically selected to meet criteria regarding age and biodiversity. Through agreements with landowners, an alternative to clear-cutting is offered. The forest is preserved and managed in a way that increases carbon sequestration and enhances biodiversity. In several of the areas where the project is carried out, there is also collaboration with local Sámi communities that engage in reindeer herding in those areas.

First Swedish forestry project validated under VERRA

The Boreal Mix project is the first Swedish forestry project to be validated according to the VERRA standard, which is widely used internationally for the certification of forest-based climate projects. The validation provides independent confirmation of the project’s additionality and its long-term contribution to high climate and biodiversity values.

“This collaboration marks a major step forward in ZeroMission’s 20-year history, as we can now finally offer customers the opportunity—for the first time— carbon offset s in Swedish forests. There has long been a demand for ‘ carbon offsetting ’ here at home, and we are therefore pleased that this project has been validated. “It will be yet another valuable tool in our arsenal in the fight against climate change and to protect our unique Swedish nature,” says Henrik Juhlin, CEO of ZeroMission.

“ carbon offsetting ’s future is about more than just coal. Together with ZeroMission , we can offer companies the opportunity to invest in Swedish forests where climate, biodiversity, and long-term natural values are developed in tandem,” says Fredrik Möller, CEO and co-founder of fightCOtwo

About ZeroMission

ZeroMission works to help companies calculate their emissions, develop strategies to reduce them, and simultaneously sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by purchasing carbon credits from high-quality, certified projects through carbon offsetting. The company was founded in 2006.

About fightCOtwo

fightCOtwo works to preserve, in the long term, Swedish forests with high natural value that would otherwise be at high risk of being logged. By creating an economic alternative to logging, forest owners can receive compensation for allowing the forest to remain standing and continue to develop.

The forests that are preserved are important for biodiversity and provide habitats for many species associated with old-growth forests. In northern Sweden, the forests are also of great importance to the reindeer herding industry, and FightCOtwo is collaborating with the reindeer herding industry to strengthen the conditions for reindeer grazing lands that will remain viable in the long term.

The goal is to make conservation a viable economic alternative to logging—for the benefit of the climate, nature, and future generations.
