Companies can now carbon offset help protect Swedish forests – ZeroMission launches a partnership with fightCOtwo

ZeroMission AB is expanding its partnership with fightCOtwo and is now a reseller of Swedish carbon credits linked to the protection of boreal forests in Lapland and inland Norrbotten. Through this partnership, companies and organizations can now, for the first time, carbon offset forest conservation in Sweden through VERRA-certified carbon credits via ZeroMission.

Forest Conservation Instead of Clear-Cutting
The carbon credits come from fightCOtwo’s Boreal Mix project. Among other things, the project protects forests along the Laisälven River in Lapland and in the inland regions of Norrbotten. Each forest area is specifically selected to meet criteria regarding age and biodiversity. Through agreements with landowners, an alternative to clear-cutting is offered. The forest is preserved and managed in a way that increases carbon sequestration and enhances biodiversity. In several of the areas where the project is carried out, there is also collaboration with local Sámi communities that engage in reindeer herding in those areas.
First Swedish forestry project validated under VERRA
The Boreal Mix project is the first Swedish forestry project to be validated according to the VERRA standard, which is widely used internationally for the certification of forest-based climate projects. The validation provides independent confirmation of the project’s additionality and its long-term contribution to high climate and biodiversity values.
