Nordic B Corps urges business leaders: “Our planet needs you now”

On March 3, more than 100 certified B Corps in the Nordic region, including Too Good to Go, Icebug, Lumene, 66°North, and ZeroMission, published an open letter urging companies to take responsibility for their impact on people, the planet, and future generations.

The letter, titled "Dear CEO: Our planet needs you now," is addressed to Nordic business leaders, urging them to take action and highlighting the important role companies play in tackling today's climate and biodiversity crises. Signed by CEOs from various sectors and countries, it calls for leadership, courage, and cooperation.

“It is clear to us that as emissions, temperatures, and sea levels rise, species become extinct, and human well-being comes under pressure, we cannot wait for political consensus and action. No private company can bear the burden alone, but more of us must do more. And together, we can do more.”

How Nordic B Corp is securing B Corp

The more than 100 companies behind the letter voluntarily meet high, verified standards for their social and environmental business practices through their certification as B Corporations. In the letter, they explain why this is important and invite others to use the free standards and tools that are already available.

“What some call administrative burdens, we call future-proofing our business. It’s not just about meeting a standard—it’s about taking responsibility, driving progress, and shaping a future where businesses help restore and protect the planet.”

Changing “business as usual” through B Corp

There is strong interest in purpose-driven and responsible business practices, as well as in the rapidly growing B Corp in the Nordic region, which now includes nearly 200 companies that measure, document, and improve their impact using B Lab standards as their template.

“We know that many business leaders want to lead with purpose and care about how their companies impact people and the planet. Our role is to help Nordic companies transform good intentions into rigorous, credible action and use their influence and resources for systemic change,” says Gitte Rosholm, Head of B Lab Nordics.

Taking responsibility for your impact on people and the planet is also good for business. Research shows that B Corps grow faster and are more resilient during crises than regular companies, and that if every company acted like a B Corp, we could reduce global warming by 0.5 degrees Celsius by 2100.
