Every year, ZeroMission has the privilege of welcoming bright, ambitious interns who bring fresh energy to our mission. This spring, Mathilde Ducasse swapped the south of France for Swedish spring chills — and quickly became a natural part of our team. With her sharp mind, a passion for coding and climate action, and just the right dose of humour about Swedish weather, Mathilde reminds us why investing in young talent is always worth it.
Hi there, Mathilde! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hey! I’m Mathilde Ducasse, and I’m doing a four-month internship at ZeroMission as part of my studies. I’m French, and it’s my first time in Sweden — and I love it, except for the fact that we are in July and its currently 10 degrees…
I’m in my fourth year of studies, and my school requires us to do an internship abroad this year. I’ve always wanted to combine my interest in computer science with my concern for the environment, so I looked for an internship at a company that works actively on climate issues. Since I didn’t want to fly, I also looked for a European company.
What are you currently studying?
I’m an engineering student in Computer Science and Management. The management part means I also study socioeconomics and accounting alongside programming.
What have you been doing so far during your internship?
One of my classmates in the year above me, Maxys Pageau, did his internship here last year. When I heard about ZeroMission, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for.
What has been the best thing so far about Sweden?
That’s a tough question because I really love my experience in Sweden! But I’d say how easy it is to be vegetarian here — there are always vegetarian or vegan options, and that feels amazing. It’s quite a bit harder in France, where I always have to check the menu before eating out.
Another thing I love about Stockholm is how close it is to nature. There are huge parks everywhere, and it’s so green. I even saw a deer on my way to the office once! I don’t know if it’s the same in every Swedish city, but I think so.
